Mataguay Scout Ranch Unit Backpack Training March 8-9

UNIT BACKPACK is a great training program designed to teach basic backpacking skills. This program is intended for all scouts & parents with little or no backpacking experience. You don’t need to own backpacking equipment to participate in this activity. The MSR (Mataguay Scout Ranch) "T" Patch will be awarded to all participants, youth and adult, who successfully complete the training.

Backpack Training starts at 8:00 AM Saturday at Mataguay. A six-mile loop trail is backpack-hiked, ending at a trail camp not far from our starting point. High Sierra Trek-experienced instructors from the SDIC High Adventure Team provide guidance, instruction and assistance along the trail and in camp. Training typically ends around 10-11 AM on Sunday.

Many troop backpack trips require this training as a pre-requisite, so please plan to attend this event. A signup sheet will be present at the troop trailer. There will be a separate troop meeting scheduled in February to talk about gear. Parents and interested Scouts should plan to attend that meeting. For questions please contact: Stu Liber
