About Us

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Troop 776!

Our troop is sponsored by St. John's Catholic Church located at 1001 Encinitas, Blvd., Encinitas, CA.  Scout meetings are held the first three Tuesdays of every month from 7 to 8 p.m. A boy must be 11 years old or have finished 5th grade to join Boy Scouts.  We welcome boys from Encinitas, Carlsbad, La Costa, Leucadia, Rancho Santa Fe and Cardiff.

Troop 776 is a scout led troop which means the scouts run the show.  The boys take charge of all of the meetings and planned activities.  Older scouts train younger scouts in camping and leadership skills. Our troop has an active program that combines advancement and outdoor activities. Some of our treks include canoeing on the Colorado River, campouts at the Mataguay Scout Ranch,  Catalina Island, Camp Pendleton, rock climbing in Joshua Tree and various other hikes and back packing trips.  In the summertime we provide two opportunities for week long camps.  Many of the scouts attend both camps.  We attend Philmont High Adventure Camp in New Mexico every few years (next trip 2019).  We provide leadership opportunities for boys who wish to attend the National Youth Leadership Training camp. We also provide Religious Emblem training.

The scouts are always supervised by our Scoutmaster and many trained adult leaders and a strong group of very supportive parents. Our troop produces a large number of Eagle Scouts.  Since 2014 we have had 21 boys advance to the rank of Eagle Scout and we have several more who will be getting their Eagle rank in 2018.

Our troop was just recognized by the City of Encinitas for the volunteer work we do throughout our community.  Our scouts volunteer annually at the following events:  Cardiff Kook Run, The Encinitas Turkey Trott, U.S. Postal Food Drive, Community Resource Holiday Baskets program, St. John's Fiesta. We provide the service of Honor Guard for many Encinitas City Council meetings and other events at City Hall.  We honor our military by attending Wreaths Across America each year.  We also serve the community by preforming flag retirement ceremonies.
